Easter Sunday is a special day as we get to honor and celebrate the Good News of Jesus Christ’s resurrection and the hope He brings to our lives! As you plan to celebrate Easter with friends and family, here are 3 ways to make your gatherings extra special this year.
1. Brighten Up Your Home With Fresh Flowers
Not only do they look amazing set out on the table, but they smell great too. You can find a wide variety of fresh flowers at most grocery stores, but my personal favorite place to find amazing flowers (for a great price) is at Trader Joes. They have pre-made flower arrangements, or you can get crafty and create your own!
Lauren’s DIY Flower Arrangement Advice:
To make the perfect arrangement yourself, you will need 3 different types of flowers: a thriller, a spiller, and a filler.
- Thriller: These flowers are your statement pieces and are typically the largest flower in the arrangement. Some examples include roses, tulips, sunflowers, peonies, etc.
- Spiller: These flowers are your accent flowers that “spill” around the thriller flowers. These flowers are usually smaller in bloom size! These typically include carnations, daisies, asters, etc.
- Filler: These flowers are meant to fill in any gaps within the arrangement. You will want to find the smallest flowers or even just some leafy greens! These can include greenery, eucalyptus, baby’s breath, etc.
If you decide to make your own arrangements, I’ve found that I can get about 1 large arrangement (or 2 medium) from 3-4 bundles of flowers (aka 1 thriller, 1 spiller, and 1 filler). Use your creative side when picking out your flowers and know that there is no “right or wrong” way to make the perfect arrangement!
2. Bake Resurrection Rolls: A Sweet Easter Story
Tell the story of Jesus’ resurrection through baking with the kids!
Ingredients:
- Crescent roll dough
- Large marshmallows
- Cinnamon
- Sugar
- Butter
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Grease a muffin tin pan and set aside.
- Melt butter in a small bowl.
- Mix together the cinnamon and sugar in a separate small bowl.
- Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into triangles (along the dough perforations). Explain that the dough represents the tomb that they put Jesus into after his crucifixion.
- Next, hold up a white marshmallow and explain that it represents Jesus. Roll the marshmallow in butter and then in the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Explain that it represents the oils and spicesthat was rubbed on Jesus after his death before they placed him in the tomb.
- Place the marshmallow onto a dough triangle near the larger end. Wrap each side of the dough up and over the marshmallow and explain that the dough represents the tomb where they buried Jesus. Roll the dough in your hands until all of the marshmallow is covered and sealed.
- Dip the rolled dough in butter and then dip in the cinnamon/sugar mixture and place in the greased muffin tin.
- Repeat until all of the dough has been used.
- Bake for 15 minutes.
- Allow to cool then cut the “tomb” (rolls) down the middle. Before cutting, ask if the kids remember what happened on the third day (or why we celebrate Easter). Remind them that when they wentto the tomb where Jesus was buried, the tomb was empty because Jesus rose. Cut through the roll and show the kids how the “tomb” is now empty.

3. Easter Egg Roulette: A Fun Twist on Tradition
Looking for a different activity than the traditional egg hunt? Try Easter Egg Roulette!
What You’ll Need:
- Plastic Easter Eggs
- One golden egg
- Yarn or Ribbon cut to 15-inch pieces (one per guest)
- Plastic Cup
- Paper plates (one per guest)
- Prizes for each egg (get creative with what your family and friends would like)
- Larger prize for golden egg
- Clear Tape
How It Works:
- Fill easter eggs with prizes.
- Tape one piece of string to each paper plate.
- Cut a hole out of the bottom of the plastic cup.
- Feed the other ends of the string (not taped to plate) through the hole in the cup.
- Have each paper plate arranged around the cup in the middle.
- Lay one egg on each plate.
- Have each guest pull a string from the top of the cup and see which egg they pull!
(Note: They may have to hold on to the cup in order for it to not tip over when pulling the string!)
This fun twist on an easter egg activity is sure to be a hit for any age! Check out this example of playing the game!
Whether you try a new game, recipe, or tradition this year, we hope you have an amazing Easter celebration with friends and family.
