Retired Life So Far: A Special Interview with Cathy

Retired Life So Far: A Special Interview with Cathy

May 08, 2025

It was such a joy to sit down with Cathy recently and hear how she’s settling into retirement. As the founder of Harvest Point®, Cathy’s presence and leadership have shaped so much of who we are as a firm. I’ve always admired her wisdom and grace, and getting to hear her reflect on this next chapter of life was both inspiring and grounding. Cathy shared openly about the slower pace, the space to be present, and the simple joys that are now part of her daily rhythm. Her reflections reminded me that retirement doesn’t require a grand plan; sometimes, the richest moments come when we make room to simply enjoy what matters most.

Interview Takeaways:

When Cathy thought about retirement, she admits her vision was a bit fuzzy. She didn’t spend much time imagining what she would do in retirement. Now, a few months in, she’s discovered that the beauty of this chapter lies not in perfectly laid plans—but in the freedom to linger, to walk, to read, to pray, and to play!

Cathy begins her day with prayer and reflection time, along with a hot cup of coffee! She and her husband, Joe, walk 2–4 miles daily with a flexible schedule. “There’s something special about not always having to be on a tight schedule, and feeling rushed to get to the next thing,” she reflects, “I can just be present in the moment.”

A book Cathy has recently read, The Gift of Years by Joan Chittister, was given to her by a dear client who has several years of retirement experience. “I highly recommend this book to all, at any age,” Cathy says. The book provided wonderful perspective around retirement years, focusing on the choice to look at aging not as an ending, but as an invitation to live with deeper purpose.

Her days now include sweet time with grandchildren—parks, libraries, lunches, and one-on-one moments that she treasures deeply. She's also found joy in being more available to help friends, offering support in ways her full-time schedule once made difficult.

Cathy feels empowered to give her time freely and purposefully—choosing to live each day with intention. She’s embracing this season day by day—cherishing time with loved ones and taking time to thank the Lord for her many blessings.

Her advice to those approaching retirement?
“It’s a new beginning—full of choices, full of grace. Lean on God to show you what it can become for you!”

After our conversation, I found myself reflecting on how meaningful it is to witness someone step into a new season with such openness and grace. Cathy’s retirement isn’t marked by rigid plans—it’s marked by presence, purpose, and gratitude. Her willingness to trust God with each unfolding day is something we can all learn from, whether we’re nearing retirement or simply navigating a new chapter. We’re incredibly thankful for the legacy Cathy left at Harvest Point®—and even more excited to see how God continues to use her story to inspire others in this new season of life.
