The Power of Intentional Time

The Power of Intentional Time

January 05, 2026

Strong relationships aren’t built in gestures alone. More often, they grow through simple, intentional moments shared consistently. My husband and I are going on 19 years of marriage this year and one thing that I always try to be mindful of is our intentional time together.

One of the most meaningful ways to care for your relationship is to be creative and purposeful with your time together. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. Just intentional.

Think small, but meaningful

  • Make coffee and go for an early morning walk before the day begins
  • Sit on the porch together in the evening and talk without distractions
  • Cook a new recipe at home and enjoy it by candlelight
  • Run errands together and turn them into conversation time
  • Pray together before bed or read a short devotional
  • Take a weekly lunch break together to break up the workday

These moments create space to connect, listen, laugh, and simply be present.

Why Intentional Time Matters

Life fills up quickly with work, kids, responsibilities, and endless to-do lists. If time together isn’t planned, it often gets pushed aside. Over time, that distance can quietly grow.

Regular, intentional time helps you:

  • Stay emotionally connected
  • Communicate more openly
  • Reduce stress and misunderstandings
  • Strengthen trust and friendship
  • Recenter your relationship even in busy seasons

Schedule It, On Purpose

Intentional time doesn’t happen by accident. It needs a place on the calendar. Whether it’s a weekly walk, a standing coffee date, or a monthly evening out, scheduling time together sends a clear message: this relationship matters.

Relationships thrive when nurtured with consistency, grace, and presence. When you choose to slow down and invest in one another, you are putting each other as a priority in your life. Small moments often lead to the deepest connection.

You don’t necessarily need more time; you just need intentional time.
