Summer is officially here, and I couldn’t be more excited for the warm weather and sun-soaked days spent outside with loved ones. One of the best parts about longer summer days is getting to grill some of my favorite foods. I’ve always been a huge fan of traditional cheeseburgers, but I’ve been branching out and trying new foods—some of which I now love! Here are a few creative twists on backyard BBQ staples that I'm adding to my summer menu this year.
1. Swap Your Burger Bun
Serve your traditional burger patty on a salty pretzel bun or thick Texas toast for a flavorful upgrade. Looking for something lighter? A crisp lettuce wrap is a fresh, healthy alternative.
2. Grill Your Salad
Slice romaine hearts in half lengthwise, brush with olive oil, and grill for 1–2 minutes. Top with Caesar dressing, croutons, and parmesan for a smoky spin on a classic salad.
3. Skillet Nachos
Layer tortilla chips, cheese, beans, and your favorite toppings in a cast iron skillet. Close the grill lid and let everything melt together—campfire-style, no oven required.
4. Beer-Brined Brats
Marinate any type of bratwurst in a mix of beer and sliced onions for extra flavor before grilling. It’s an easy way to take this cookout staple to the next level.
5. Peach Caprese Salad
Swap the tomatoes for fresh peach slices, paired with mozzarella, basil, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. It’s light, refreshing, and full of summer flavor.
Whether you're hosting friends on the patio or planning a relaxed date night at home, these unique twists on classic BBQ fare are an easy way to mix things up. I can’t wait to try them out myself!
