The world of finance seems to always be evolving but since its inception in 1973 the Certified Financial Planner designation has been a symbol of trust and proficiency for financial professionals worldwide. Previous to this, there was not an easy identifier to know who was capable of giving sound advice and guidance on planning for financial goals like retirement.
The CFP® certification was introduced by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) in response to the growing need for standardized, comprehensive financial planning. The goal was to establish a rigorous and universally recognized standard that would benefit both financial planners and their clients.
Over the years, the CFP® marks have become synonymous with a high level of competence, ethical conduct, and dedication to the financial planning profession. Achieving this designation is not a small endeavor as it requires candidates to meet strict requirements for education, examination, and experience. A CFP® Professional also must continually uphold the CFP Board's Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct which requires acting as a fiduciary when providing financial advice.
The 50th Anniversary of the CFP® marks is a celebration of excellence, expertise, and ethics. It is a testament to the enduring value of comprehensive financial planning and the commitment of CFP® professionals to their clients' financial success.
